Many say that working out can actually beat depression. Science would seem to suggest a definite YES. There are various studies on depression and anxiety which have noted that the physical and psychological benefits of exercise can indeed help you reduce anxiety and depression and in return improves your mood.

Our modern lifestyle tends to lead us towards stress and depression and this phenomenon is becoming more and more common as our life becomes fast-paced. Depression is not sudden and certainly not something that can be avoided; rather there are many factors that can influence one’s depression, and this does include genes. In many cases and situations, it has been seen that rigorous counseling and even medication has been prescribed to patients to combat depression.

These days, mental health experts or psychologists are looking for methods to treat depression without any sort of medication as that may have an adverse effect on a person’s health. Earlier I mentioned that you cannot avoid depression but you can certainly try to prevent it from taking a serious turn. It has been noted that physical activity is an effective way to treat as well as prevent depression. After years’ worth of scientific research, it has been concluded that indulging in even a moderate level of physical activity such as walking for 20-30 minutes a day can help in preventing depression.

Well, this means that if you are currently staying active you should continue as it would keep you away from being depressed and if you are not active, it is never too late to get into the habit.

It has been seen that these days people who start working out prefer to stay active even in the long run not because they have to, rather just because of the positivity that they feel after a workout. Our bodies and mind are designed in a manner that we tend to feel good when we work out. This is, in fact, a biological design which is required for our survival. All the things that we need to survive include food, water, sleep, social connections, sexual activity, deep breathing, and physical activity. All these activities release neurochemicals that give us that positive feeling.

Indulging in as well as promoting physical activity is the best way to reduce the risk of falling prey to depression as well as its personal, social, and economic repercussions. Thus, we can conclude that moderate exercise can indeed replace expensive medications which have negative side effects.
