Yoga is much more than aasan and Pranayam. Yoga is all part of our lifestyle. And one of the important aspects of yoga is Shuddhi kriyas or cleansing techniques. Basically, these are body cleansing techniques to purify and detoxify your body and mind. We are in a situation where everyone is eager and wants to know the cleansing techniques, how to lose weight, how to stay positive and end up trying all these crazy ways to detox. But the GREAT NEWS is that if you are one of such people, you don’t have to try a new diet or develop a new system. There are some splendid yogic techniques which have existed from thousands of years and which have some powerful benefits which you can personally experience.
Three Keys to purify and detox the body:
1. Enema cleansing (Jala Basti)
It is mentioned in our yogic scriptures that the root of ALL diseases is the stomach (digestive system). If you have clear clean gut you can reach enlightenment itself! Traditionally water colon cleansing is said to cure a variety of ailments, including those from the three humors (the blood, bones, and fat). You can enhance your cleansing by doing yogic stomach exercises. It also removes impurities of mind and body. Enema Kits are commonly used for this cleansing.
2. Water Nasal Cleansing (Jala Neti)
For this Kriya, you need a neti pot . This practice has existed for over 60,000 years; all the yogic communities are doing it. Take lukewarm water and add a pinch of sea salt. Do this practice at least once / twice a week. The neti pot practice is great for healing colds, sinus infections, and allergies. These days people are searching for very powerful detoxification cleansing techniques to overcome such problems. Detoxifying in Spa with all the funky treatments, Chinese Medicine, Cupping and more. One of the most powerful techniques to clear the sinuses, nasal congestion etc., Jala neti is highly recommended. It is suitable for everyone, specially today common allergies and flus are an everyday fare. The water flowing through your nasal passages also cools and “clears out” your brain. There is a scriptural reference to this path that says this is an authentic practice.
3. Eye wash Cleansing (Netra suddhi)
For this Kriya, you need an eyewash cup . This is a simple eye cleansing technique that revives energy and brings freshness of mind. For centuries, in Ayurveda and yoga, this is has been a key part of the lifestyle because our eyes are exposed to some many allergens and pollutants throughout the day, besides the heat. Doing this technique is so fast and it immediately refreshes you in an instant. Do this practice at least twice a day with normal room temperature water (non-fluoride content).
